The Kirkheaton Guide Post
The guidepost (Milepost) at the crossroads of Hollin Hall lane and Highgate lane is notable for its ancient spelling of DewsBerry and Hallifax. It is one of only two in the Huddersfield district dating back to 1738.
Situated near to the Blacksmith’s Arms it had lain neglected and leaning against a wall for many years. However in 2007 thanks to funding from the Parish council, it was restored by Kirklees council’s highways department and repainted with specialist paint [1]. It was again repainted in 2019.

The Kirkheaton guide stoop erected in 1738 is grade II listed. [Inventory number-1135364]. It was listed 16 May 1984.
